Yes, learning english can be rough…( or is it ruff?)

It is okay to be frustrated when learning English. It is a language that sometimes, does not follow its own rules and so, it can be difficult even for those whose first language comes from the same Germanic language family tree. Those, whose first language is not from the Germanic or Latin families will have an a more challenging time.

For example:

Words such as bough, tough, plough and though all have the same Middle English ending  -ough

But they are each pronounced differently;

bough = bau

tough = tuff

plough = plow

though = thō.

These are just some examples of how English can be such a challenge.

With recognition, practice, and repetition, it will become easier to recognize which sounds belong to each word.

Although learning english can be rough, I encourage you to get through the tough parts. You may feel like you are out on a thin tree bough at times. But, it is going to be okay. You are tougher than you think! You will plough through.
